Solar gain: St Saviour’s Infants wins major grant from local green fund

St Saviour’s Nursery & Infant School in Larkhall, East Bath, is delighted to announce a grant of £10,000 from the Bath & West Community Energy (BWCE) Fund. This will cover 50% of the cost of installing solar panels on the school roof. The grant is the highest amount awarded under the fund which is administered by the Quartet Foundation.

The school is now more than half-way towards its target of £20,000 to fund a 10 kilowatt array which it plans to install in the autumn. The panels, a fitting legacy following the school’s recent 50th birthday celebrations, will generate a quarter of its electricity during term-time, saving money on bills as well as providing income during the school holidays, which will benefit local children for years to come.

Ed Harker, headteacher, commented:  “We’re delighted to have been selected by BWCE for their major grant award. It has given a tremendous boost to our fundraising efforts and we are even more determined to reach our goal of £20,000 by July this year. It’s a great chance to bring the school and local community together for a great cause, to help the environment and spread the word about renewable energy.”

The BWCE grant is conditional upon match-funding (matching the amount from other sources). The Solar at St Saviour’s Infants (SASSI) team is working hard to raise the rest of the money with class fundraising activities involving the children and sales of its own merchandise, as well as approaching local businesses for sponsorship and organising events. The school will be holding an Auction of Promises on Friday 18th March at 7.30 for 8 to 10 pm, FREE entry, open to all, great lots, cash bar & snacks, entertainment – all for a great cause.
